Recently, I had the privilege of being featured on the Freed Stories podcast. In this conversation, I shared insights into my journey as a jewelry designer, my commitment to sustainable craftsmanship, and the inspiration behind my brand, Sheena Marshall Jewelry. Here’s a closer look at what we discussed and why this interview is close to my heart.
The Journey to Fine Jewelry Design
During the interview, I talked about how my path to jewelry design wasn’t linear. From my early career in advertising and education to discovering my passion for metalsmithing, each experience shaped my approach to design and business. Transitioning into the world of fine jewelry was a leap of faith, but it was rooted in a desire to create meaningful, timeless pieces that resonate with today’s wearers.
Sustainable Craftsmanship: A Core Value
Sustainability is at the heart of my work. In the podcast, I discussed my use of recycled metals, like 14k gold, and ethical practices that minimize waste. For me, creating jewelry is more than crafting beautiful objects; it’s about contributing to a more thoughtful, responsible industry. I believe modern heirlooms should carry not only aesthetic value but also a story of care and intention.
The Artistry Behind Modern Heirlooms
One of the key themes of our conversation was the concept of “modern heirlooms.” I aim to design pieces that are understated yet bold enough to stand the test of time. My inspiration often comes from architectural forms, natural elements, and the stories of my clients. Each piece is handmade in small batches in my Denver studio, ensuring attention to detail and a personal touch.
Balancing Business and Creativity
Building a business as a designer and small business owner comes with its own set of challenges. On the podcast, I shared how I balance the creative and logistical sides of my work—from sketching new designs to managing production and connecting with clients. It’s a constant learning experience, but one that’s deeply rewarding.
What’s Next for Sheena Marshall Jewelry?
In the interview, I also hinted at some exciting new developments, including my upcoming Forma collection. This collection continues my dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability, with a focus on solid gold and timeless designs. If you’re on my VIP list, you’ll be the first to know when it launches!
