There's something about a good farmers market that makes you want to slow down. No agenda, just coffee in hand, wandering through stalls of fresh flowers, local produce, handmade things. It's one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning, and Denver does it really well.
If you're looking for a new spot to try this season, here are a few of my favorites.
South Pearl Street Farmers Market South Pearl is the classic. It runs along one of Denver's prettiest streets, lined with local restaurants and shops, so it turns into a whole morning pretty easily. The produce is great, but I usually end up leaving with flowers and something from a food vendor I've never tried before. It's the kind of market you go to even when you don't need anything.
Highland Farmers Market LoHi has great neighborhood energy and the Highland market fits right into it. Smaller and more curated — good for specialty goods, local makers, and grabbing breakfast somewhere nearby after you've made your rounds.
City Park Farmers Market The setting alone makes this one worth it. City Park on a summer morning is hard to beat. Bring a blanket, take your time, let it turn into a picnic.
What to Bring (and Wear)
A market outfit is its own thing. You want to be comfortable, but you also want to feel like yourself. For me that usually means a flowy skirt I can move in, something I can layer if the morning is still cool, and a basket big enough to actually hold things.
A few pieces I've been reaching for:
A good market basket — the kind that looks great empty and even better full of flowers and bread. A few favorites [linked here].
A linen or cotton midi skirt — easy, packable, goes with everything. [I'm loving these.]
A lightweight layer — a linen shirt or a loose button-down for the early morning chill. I don't know about you, but there's something comforting about a second layer. I have one in two colors. I've had them for years and reach for them constantly.
Comfortable sandals — you're walking on grass and uneven ground. Make it easy on yourself. I stick to flats like [these].
A small crossbody — for your phone, keys, and a little cash. Keeps your hands free for the basket. I use [this one] daily.
Sunscreen — I'm picky about this because most formulas break me out. My dermatologist recommended [this one] and it's the only one I've stuck with long-term. Worth it.
As for jewelry, I keep it simple on market mornings. Lately I've been wearing this wild daisy necklace and it feels exactly right for spring — a little playful, easy to put on, fits right in with the basket-and-linen universe.
Hope to see you out there this season.
Cheers, Sheena
