We offer a range of metals to make our designs more accessible to all, because we believe there isn’t a wrong metal—just the right one for every stage of life. With that in mind, here’s how to care for each of them.
The more you wear and cherish your jewelry, the brighter and shinier it stays, but even our highest quality metals need occasional attention.
To ensure longevity, minimize bending and remove jewelry before showering, sleeping, swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and fragrances. Avoid continuous moisture or heat.
Our designs are crafted from solid metal with no plating and may develop a patina over time—a natural change in color that adds character and depth, not to be confused with tarnish. For tips on maintaining their brilliance, see below.
Solid Gold
- Solid gold is truly extraordinary. It’s crafted to endure the everyday and maintain its brilliant shine year after year. While it requires less upkeep than other metals, a touch of care now and then will keep it looking its best.
- For a touch of care, gently wash your gold pieces with unscented, clear dish soap and a soft toothbrush. To restore their natural brilliance, use a Sunshine polishing cloth.
- We use fairmined gold certification standard for responsibly sourced gold that supports small-scale and artisanal mining communities. Learn more here.
Gold Fill
- Gold-filled jewelry offers an exceptional balance of affordability and quality. It features a substantial layer of 14k gold, expertly bonded to a high-quality brass core through heat and pressure. This process ensures that gold-filled pieces contain significantly more real gold than standard gold-plating. Not only is gold-filled jewelry tarnish-resistant and hypoallergenic, but it also promises long-lasting beauty with the right care.
- To keep your gold-filled jewelry looking its best, gently use a polishing cloth or simply clean it with mild soap and water. While gold-filled pieces are tarnish-resistant, they are not entirely tarnish-proof. Factors like exposure to chemicals in pools, hot tubs, or while working out, as well as individual body chemistry and medications, can affect their longevity and sparkle. Most people won't encounter these issues, but proper care will help maintain their beauty for years.
Sterling Silver
- Sterling silver is a timeless, precious metal designed to last. The more you wear and love your sterling silver, the brighter and shinier it stays. While it may tarnish when exposed to air, this is a natural reaction to oxygen. If tarnishing occurs, a simple polish with a cloth will restore its brilliance.
- If you’re not wearing your sterling silver pieces daily, it's best to store them in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container to minimize exposure to air and prevent tarnishing. This will help keep them looking their best for years to come.
Introducing
Brass
- For some of my casted pieces, I use a yellow brass alloy for its rich, golden tone that mirrors 14k yellow gold. Brass, an heirloom metal with natural warmth, is never plated and can always be restored to its original brilliance. Over time, brass may develop a deeper color due to exposure to moisture and air, adding unique character. You might notice a harmless green tint where the metal touches your skin—this natural reaction to the copper content is harmless and often disappears with more wear.
- To keep your brass pieces looking their best, keep them dry and avoid moisture. Remove rings before washing your hands and ensure your skin is completely dry before wearing them again. For added protection, a thin coat of clear nail polish inside the ring creates a barrier. If tarnish occurs, a Sunshine Cloth can help with touch-ups, or you can use a commercial polish like Brasso to restore its radiant shine.
" I have sensitive skin and appreciate that I can wear each piece without irritation."
